AS WITH GLADNESS MEN OF OLD:

By William Dix.
(Tune of "For the Beauty of the Earth.")

1) As with gladness men of old
Did the guiding star behold;
As with joy they hailed its light,
Leading onward, beaming bright,
So, most gracious Lord, may we
Evermore be led by Thee!

2) As with joyful steps they sped,
Savior, to Thy lowly bed,
There to bend the knee before
Thee whom heaven and earth adore,
So may we with willing feet
Ever seek Thy mercy-seat!

3) As they offered gifts most rare
At Thy cradle, rude and bare,
So may we with holy joy,
Pure and free from sin's alloy,
All our costliest treasures bring,
Christ, to Thee, our heavenly King!

4) Holy Jesus, every day
Keep us in the narrow way;
And when earthly things are past.
Bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide,
Where no clouds Thy glory hide.

COME O COME MESSIAH KING:

Come O come, Messiah King.
Promised Son sent to redeem
Us one by one, so we may tell.
The wonders of, Your matchless love,
Emanuel! [repeat]

A new born King to see,

Our finest gifts we bring

To lay before the King

So to honor Him,

I am a poor boy too,

pa rum pum pum pum.

I have no gift to bring,

pa rum pum pum pum.

That's fit to give our King,

pa rum pum pum pum,

rum pum pum pum,

rum pum pum pum.

Shall I play for you!

pa rum pum pum

on my drum.

***********************************************************

3) Mary nodded,

pa rum pum pum pum.

The ox and lamb kept time,

pa rum pum pum pum.

I played my drum for Him,

pa rum pum pum.

I played my best for Him,

pa rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me,

pa rum pum pum pum;

Jingle Bells.

*******************************************************

Christmas and Winter Folk Song.

*******************************************************

1) Dashing through the snow,

In a one-horse open sleigh,

O'er the fields we go,

Laughing all the way.

Bells on bob-tail ring,

Making spirits bright,

What fun it is to ride and sing

A sleighing song tonight. [chorus]

_______________________________________________________

CHORUS:

Jingle bells, jingle bells,

Jingle all the way,

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh, O

Jingle bells, jingle bells,

Jingle all the way,

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh.

*******************************************************

2) A day or two ago,

I thought I'd take a ride,

And soon Miss Fanny Bright

Was seated by my side,

The horse was lean and lank,

Misfortune seemed his lot,

We ran into a drifted bank,

And there we got upsot. [chorus]

*******************************************************

3) Now the ground is white,

Go it while you're young,

Take the girls along,

And sing this sleighing song.

Just get a bob-tailed bay,

Two-forty as his speed,

Hitch him to an open sleigh

And crack! You'll take the lead. [chorus]

RUDOLF THE RED NOSED REINDEER.

Christmas Folk Song made famous by Gene Autry.

*******************

You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,

Comet, and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen.

But do you recall,

The most famous reindeer of all?

__________________________________________________________

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer

had a very shiny nose.

and if you ever saw it,

you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer,

used to laugh and call him names.

They never let poor Rudolph,

play in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas eve,

Santa came to say:

"Rudolph with your nose so bright,

won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him,

as they shouted out with glee.

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,

you'll go down in history!

THE MARVELOUS TOY.

By Tom Paxton.

***********************

1) When I was just a wee little lad

Full of health and joy,

My father homeward bound he came,

And he gave to me this toy.

A wonder to behold it was

It had many colors bright;

And the moment I set my eyes on it,

It be came my heart's delight. (Chorus)

*******************************************************

CHORUS:

_______________________________________________________

It went zip when it moved,

Bop when it dropped,

Whirrrrr when it stood still!

I never knew just what it was

And I guess I never will.

_______________________________________________________

2) The very first time that I picked it up

I had a big surprise.

At the very bottom were two big buttons,

That looked like two green eyes.

I first pushed one

And then I pushed the other

And then I twisted its lid.

And when I set it down again,

This is what it did. (Chorus)

*******************************************************

3) First it marched left

And then it marched right,

Then it marched right under a chair;

And when I went to see where it had gone,

It wasn't even there.

I began to sob

And my daddy laughed

For he knew that I would fine.

When I turned around

My marvelous little toy

Was chuggin' right behind. (Chorus)

*******************************************************

4) Many years have gone by

Too quickly it seems

And I have my own little boy;

And yesterday I gave to him

My marvelous little toy.

His eyes nearly popped

Right out of his head

And he gave a squeel of glee.

Neither one of us knows just what it is

But he loves it just like me.

*******************************************************

It still zips when it moves

Bops when it drops

Whirrrr when it stands still.

I never knew just what it was

And I guess I never will (2x)

Christmas in Killarney.

* * * *

Irish Christmas Folk Song.

* * *

The holly green, the ivy green

The prettiest picture you've ever seen

Is Christmas in Killarney

With all of the folks at home

It's nice, you know, to kiss your beau

While cuddling under the mistletoe

And Santa Claus you know, of course

Is one of the boys from home

_________*__________

The door is always open

The neighbors pay a call

And Father John before he's gone

Will bless the house and all

How grand it feels to click your heels

And join in the fun of the jigs and reels

I'm handing you no blarney

The likes you've never known

Is Christmas in Killarney

With all of the folks at home
