November 2001 Inductees:

JOHN ALDEN & PRISCILLA: Puritan Love Birds who sailed on the Mayflower from England to Plymouth Rock in 1619, with William Bradford, Miles Standish, and the other pilgrims. They are the principle charactors in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "The Courtship of Miles Standish." In the story, Captain Miles Standish of The Mayflower, asks his friend, John Alden, to propose marriage to Priscilla in his behalf. Priscilla's response was "Speak for yourself, John."

WILLIAM BRADFORD: Famous Leader of The Pilgrims who sailed from England aboard The Mayflower, and landed on Plymouth Rock in 1619.

POCAHONTAS: Indian Princess who played a major role in bringing peace between her people and the Jamestown Settlers of 1607. She became the Topic of Walt Disney's 33rd Animated Classic in 1995.

SQUANTO: Indian Leader who played a major role in establishing peace between his people and The Pilgrims who sailed from England on The Mayflower, and landed on Plymouth Rock in 1619. This enabled The Pilgrims and The Indians to work together, bring in a major harvest, and share in "The First Thanksgiving Feast."

December 2001 Inductees:

~~YUKON CORNELIUS: Fictional and Comical North Pole/Christmas Town Prospector in The American Christmas TV Classic "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer."

CASEY JONES: Many poems, stories and songs have been written about this Brave Train Engineer who gave his life to save others, on that stormy night in Mississippi, 100 years ago, when Casey's Train was heading for disaster.

~~KRIS KRINGLE: One of Santa Claus' "Other Names;" also the main charactor in the American Classic, "Miracle on 34th Street."

DR. RALPH SMEDLEY: He's the Founder of Toastmasters International, a worldwide organization dedicated to helping its members improve their public speaking and leadership skills.

SIM WEBB: Casey Jone's Fireman who lived to tell the Story of Casey's Bravery. With the train heading for disaster, Casey ordered Sim to jump. Casey could have done the same, but he decided to face death head on, and save the train and its passengers. Casey died, but all of passsengers' lives were saved that night.

January 2002 Inductees:

DANIEL BOONE: Settled in The American Wilderness during Colonial Times, and established the settlement called "Boonesborough." He was the Early Frontiersman who was mostly responsible for exploring and bringing settlers to what is now the State of Kentucky. He was the subject of a Popular American TV Series back in the 1960's.

GUY LOMBARDO: Made the New Year's Song Favorite, "Auld Lang Syne" famous.

~~RIP VAN WINKLE: Washington Irving's fictional folklore charactor about a lazy American Colonist who was the constant target of his wife's nagging; until one day, the Ghost ofHenry Hudson lured Rip Van Winkle up into the Catskill Mountains, where the Ghosts of Henry Hudson's marooned crew (all small in stature) were enjoying an unusual game of Nine Pins. There, Rip Van Winkle partook of their ale, which caused him to fall into a deep slumber for 20 years. When he awoke, his wife was dead, his children were grown up,and America was an Independent Nation.

PATTI PAGE: Famous for 1950's Smash Hit Country Love Song, "Tennessee Waltz."

~~ANNIE CHRISTMAS: Was 6'7'' River Boat Woman (most likely fictional) who even supposedly gave Mike Fink a run for his money. She was said to be invincible to everything except "True Love."

DORTHEA DIX: Toured many hospitals where she crusaded for humane treatment of mentally ill patients.

*******************************************************

ANNIE OAKLEY: Famous Sharpshooter in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show, who has become a major charactor in American Folklore Stories.

BETSY ROSS: Sewed our First American Flag.

*******************************************************

HARRIET TUBMAN: An Agent of the "Underground Railroad" who helped lead a lot of slaves to freedom in the Mid 19th Century.

April 2002 Inductees:

SAMUEL CLEMENS (MARK TWAIN): Famous Humorous Author of American Folklore, who worte the classics, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." He also wrote the popular classics such as "Connecticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court."

~~HUCKLEBERRY FINN: This was Mark Twain's most popular fictional charactor (depicting his own youth), about an adopted boy (and a friend of Tom Sawyer) who accompanied a runaway slave friend named Jim on many misadventures on the Mighty Mississippi River.

O'HENRY: Humorous Folklore Author who wrote classic humorous stories such as "The Ransom of Red Chief."

May 2002 Inductees:

KATHERINE LEE BATES: She was the writer of "America the Beautiful."

HARRIET BEECHER STOWE: She was the Author of the 19th Century's Best seller, "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

~~UNCLE REMUS-- Fictional storyteller of The Pre Civil War South, who told the "Tales of Br'er Rabbit," and "Br'er Fox."

June 2002 Inductees:

FRANCIS SCOTT KEY: While looking upon the Brittish Bombardment of Fort McHenry from aboard a ship in 1814, he wrote "The Star Spangled Banner," which became our National Anthem in 1931. An elementary school in Anaheim, California; carries his name.

~~HIAWATHA: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Famous Native American Folklore Legend who supposedly lived prior to Colonial America. He is the main charactor in one of the greatest Native American Literary Works ever written--"The Song of Hiawatha."

~~HOT BISCUITS SALLY: Lumberjack camp cook, who was said to have been able to keep Paul Bunyan and his men well fed, courtesy of a giant griddle several lumberjacks would "Skate" on, with bacon grease tied to their boots, so the hotcakes wouldn't stick.

JULIA WARD HOWE: She wrote the Famous Civil War Hymn, "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
